No. 1080p is a video specification. 1920 x 1080 with no interlacing. The p stands for progressive.
No. Just video improvement
Well 1080 premium comes from yt premium, and yt premium comes with yt music. Use music… it has everything youtube has, just musically-er.
But yes, higher bitrate would technically make the videos sound better
It’s video Bitrate, not Audio. 10 bit color doesn’t make your video sound better
YouTube doesn’t even go past 16khz, hell no.
No just convenience, it’s still compressed to high heaven
Youtube and audiophile in the same sentence is a f**ING nonsense !
You can’t say that you are audiophile and use Youtube…
Gatekeeping is never cool.
Does not having premium remove anything we had before?
No. You only gain smth, if you think it’s worth it you do you.
You know when on a colored background with a fade you only have like 8 shades of green and they look like stripes? That’s the video Bitrate. A higher Bitrate gives you more colors to work with (imagine it now being more than 8 shades of green and so the stripiness gets less aggressive because you can separate it in more steps) This feature gives you just that. It has nothing to do with audio.
To those dumping on YT for music:
YT has a LOT of great live performances: NPR’s Tiny Desk, KEXP’s live sessions, many concert recordings (and not just the terrible handheld cell phone ones).

Yes, the audio is not 24/192, but if you can’t enjoy watching these musicians PLAY, then you have issues.
Those tiny desk concerts are fire. The engineers know damn well how to mix, would sound great at any bitrate
Audio is not even 200kbs , and when I pay for premium people still get nothing ? That sounds like a ripoff
T-Pain’s tiny desk concert is amazing
There are some fantastic KEXP ones. The most recent one that Alvvays did is so impressive…captured all the complexity of their shoe gaze-y sound while being punchy and pop-y
All The king gizzard ones are good too.
When I go to a “quick listening” of something vanced yt music is my goto. I’ve somehow educated the algorithm quite well despite my weird/contraditory tastes? I’d say people to give it a try if they “just want to listen to some tunes”.
The Dutch channel 3voor12 also has great mixing/productions and quite a few live concerts.
Why would you need 24/192
It’s essentially less compressed than youtube’s normal 1080p compression. Basically, the compression algorithm breaks up the scene into smaller blocks making it less noticeable. Kind of an easy, “if you have it, use it” option because why not.
I’m pretty sure it only affects visual quality, not the audio tracks of a video though.
Haha. YouTube, audiophile, should not even be in the same sentence.
stop being an elitist. he is just asking whether it does anything to improve audio. answer the q or leave it
It was at this point I knew I’d made a terrible mistake. By opening my fat yob of a mouth on the internet, I’d provided an angry redditor their opprortunity to sizzle
Off to the gallows, ye…
He has a point if your listing to music then Vimeo sounds better than YouTube all day long in my testing. Of course general media then you have not much choice than YouTube
But any of the video platforms are not audiophile in anyway and never will they be.
premium adds nothing for audio.
I would like to see you carry two big speakers, a reciever and a computer to play flac on you when traveling. Or better yet, get your vinyl player on public transport.
You can see new cables in higher bitrate now
YouTube Music app has higher quality audio streaming as an option you can select but it is still probably compressed.
Where is THAT setting? TIA.
No. It only adds more data rate for video.
If you want good audio then Vimeo I found to be better than YouTube. But they are both bad for audio really.
It’s all still compressed.
