There are a lot of reasons for DSP stigma, but when done right it makes all the difference. Reasons to avoid may be complexity in the signal chain. Analog to digital conversion, convolution (EQ), digital to analog and then amplification is a ton of components that need to succeed together. Any weak links are going to limit the remaining gear. Second is confusion regarding the limitations or unexpected issues from equalizing without proper education. You can make drivers explode with EQ. Ports can fail dramatically if pushed irresponsibly. And usually when done right, EQ demands a more powerful amplifier. It’s a lot of hassle that scares more superstitious types. But it is also the key to perfect reproduction.
Why isn’t audiophile music just stuff we enjoy?
