  • I was talking to a dealer about this… I wanted to try the Empire Ears Odin, but it was very likely that it either doesn’t fit me or I just don’t think it’s worth the money.

The first dealer said please, don’t buy it from me because an open box IEM loses a ton of value.

The second dealer said here, go ahead because it’s always nice to have one in stock if you return it, here is a huge discount on top as well.

So, I guess I lucked out!

  • Huh, we are very different then… I tried out a Stax headphone as a student, my reaction was to stop listening to music for enjoyment because what I could afford just sounded like crap in comparison.

I’m still dipping my toes into cheaper stuff to see if that has changed, and that silver line seems to move down over time, but not that quickly.

A while ago, a work colleague gifted me some headphones that belonged to his grandfather. The were made in 1979 and seemed almost new, the pads were a little stiff and the elastic band on top was worn out, but they had no visible signs of use or age… AKG K340

  • Lel… I’ve spent 5 digits in total, and I say no, it doesn’t change the sound, except for some very specific pieces of equipment:

HDV-820 is an amp/DAC that can specifically change the amount of bass your headphone will have, but outside of those special cases, you won’t notice much difference.

Violectric is another brand where they are noticeably darker sounding than other brands, but these are the only brands of solid state equipment that come to mind.

  • Empire Ears Odin… I tried EQing it, because I don’t find its frequency response to be perfect, but I always end up making it worse, setting everything back to zero and just enjoying it.

It also helps that I have to put all my headphones to their largest setting and bend the headband further to not cause too much pressure, and that IEM just sits in the ear, not moving
