Whenever you get new headphone, they will sound off due to your brain being trained to like your last set. Use the HD-800S for a few days by themselves, THEN compare the two headphones.

The DT-1990, from my experience with it in gaming, is that it images really well with HRTF audio. As for your other need, deep bass extension, is where the 1990 will not deliver. It has good mid-bass, but not much in subbass, even with leather pads.

Hmm, I was going to suggest the Monoprice M1070 planars for $223 with current coupon, but they are OOS as of today. So are the AMT’s.
You can also consider the Kennerton Magni. They use graphene dynamic drivers and deliver some good bass.

M1070 planar headphones, $223.99 with EXTRA30 coupon applied.
Beyerdynamic is very good with spare part availability.
Bought a Cavalli Liquid Platinum on sale earlier this year, to replace an Asgard 3. A very nice upgrade IMO. The biggest improvement is how well they drive my HD-580 off the balanced port, with a notable improvement on the low end.
My other audio endeavor was setting up my desk with a 2.1 system. Monoprice MTM-100 + their 12" 150w sub. ($225 + $65) Kind of spoiled by speakers now.
Forget all of those, and look at ZMF.
Sonic is for mixing multichannel audio to HRTF stereo for headphones. So gaming and tv/movie watching is ideal.
Except Amir is not an EE.
I’m an original owner of a set of HD-580 Precisions, which I bought before they released the Jubilee edition, so we’re talking 1993-ish. I’ve had to replace the headband cushions once, and the earpads several times. Last set I bought are Dekoni Elite Velours, and they certainly outlast Sennheiser OEMs, as they are still perfect after a few years.
So yeah, I have 30-yr old headphones that still work. Original cable is lost, I still have the Cardas cable for it, and I’ve added a Balanced cable for it to use with my Cavalli Liquid Platinum amp.
