The main benefit for me was to free up my phone for other uses. But with my current setup there is a large amount of convenience as well, I can cast to it natively from multiple devices and voice commands.

Lossless for me is a must though, I didn’t spend the time I did to build my system to add in a bottleneck in quality via BT.

A Wiim is basically the same cost as the Emotiva BTR-1, I can’t see why anyone would choose the the Emotiva.

My SMSL stack stays on 100% of the time. It goes into standby mode which is essentially the same as hitting the power button.

My vintage stack is only when I am using it, although if I am doing something else for a short period I will leave it idle but not more then like 30 minutes.

I started out with an Aiyima A07 and the Moukey passive speakers powered off my phone. I slowly added and upgraded it and then built a second system out of the leftovers. That second system has since become my vintage system and my girlfriend got the leftovers from it, she is now building her second system and all those original components are either dead or unused currently.

I know that I like trying new things, I am not so much hung up on a specific sound or anything. As long as it is smooth, clean and detailed that is. I mostly do a lot of vintage hunting these days and not spending a ton so I can afford to play with different stuff.

I don’t worry about AB tests or anything. It’s pretty obvious when a piece of gear sounds different. If the change is so subtle that I would need to do a strict AB test to discern the differences then I just don’t worry about it. I get more enjoyment out of extracting all the sound I can from the gear I have rather than chasing the dragon.

I am sure it is different from someone looking for a specific thing, I just try not to make the perfect the enemy of the good.

If it has some sort of speaker protection relay then you should be fine. If is functional there should be a detection circuit that will open them and ground out the signal path if something happens.

I recently picked up an Onkyo M-5030 power amp and a Nikko Beta II preamp. They are from the late 70’s/early 80’s and sound pretty amazing considering the age. Both devices need some love but as is in survivor condition they both sound fantastic.

I have done both on my Wiim Pro and heard no difference in the audio. I am also unable to hear a difference between the Mini & Pro versions. It is nice to have the option of both on the Pro if you are already using one of your digital inputs already.

There is something to be said about the galvanic isolation of TOSLINK but if you aren’t having any issue to begin with I don’t think it really matters.

I have the OG Kendall’s and the veneer is real and quite well done. Whoever built the time to grain match everything and they are generally flawless when it comes to the finish. Same with my Model Three’s.

The Kendall’s sound real nice once they get them set up properly although not as articulate as the Model Three.

Personally I would spend like $4000 on the speakers.

For example, you could build system with the SourcePoint 10’s, a Yamaha S-701 and a Wiim Pro would be a decent foundation to build on and in that budget. CESS Interconnects and Micca speaker cables are decent and cheap as well.
