    it´s maybe one of the best sounding amplifiers built till today and tone controls are to be used and loudness also if not they weren´t there it depends on the music you hear ,in a studio they have infinite efects not shown in the recording ,so use them to your taste, if flat ,it´s only another one

    I just made this audio rack set up from a disused coat closet in the living room earlier in the month. I started with a Pioneer SX-D7000 in there but decided to try out a Yamaha CR-800 that I put up for sale on FB Marketplace. Well, testing that Yamaha was done today as someone purchased the piece so I slid this SA-8800 in and I’m really digging it! It sounds great. It’s for sale as well. I have another one that I’ll need to go through that should be as nice as this one when I’m done with it.

      Oh man, that’s a hard choice. The SA-8800 is a great amp, but the SX-D7000 is a darned nice receiver with a very unique look and a bit more power behind it compared to the 8800 (80 watts vs 120). Though they both have that sweet sweet florascan to go with your RT-909!

      Kudos! Might I suggest getting a blue florascan Pioneer timer (clock)? It would match well with either the D7000 or the 8800.

        I’m probably going to put the SX-d7000 up for sale. I would love to have one of those timers. I think I have a standing alert for it on eBay but haven’t found one yet that I wanted to take the plunge on.

          an old hi-fi store closed having a 80´s timer from pioneer, it was handy when in early 80´s radio shows at night were still made by persons who worked in the best shows of the 70´s,and to record from 1 to 3 a.m. a double deck with the two decks recording and the timer was usefull but today i even took the tuner from my system no radio shows that are good enough to listen. Happy hunting for a timer

        but the 8800 as much better sound than the sx-D7000,it´s a already poor receiver from the early 80´s ,so low power but do you listen to music with the volume always at full capacity ?so the sa-8800 is one of the best made by pioneer and you say you have the spec-1 and spec-2 also the sx-1250,don´t you notice any diference to the SX-D7000?i´m from a Pioneer family so i have most of the components released in the 70´s including yours and not the SX-1250 but the SX-1050 and the 78 sx-1980,also the exclusive more powerfull system from the 70´s with the twin2401exclusive speakers with the reel deck and the P3turntable ,also the 76 top of the line component system with the PLC-590 series 20 turntable and the 79 top of the line component system and bought in early 90´s a complete URUSHI system with four 8ohms prologue towers, not the Eclipse cheap components sold in the America´s with multi-players and yellow displays, and that´s only part of my pioneer components. I have a lot more and also from better brands, and i can assure you that the SA-8800 it´s far better than the SX-D7000 in sound quality and they can handle more powerfull speakers made recentelly or in the 90´s. sx-D7000?this coming from a person that as three of the best components pioneer made, you

          I’m not sure what some of your comment is referencing. Neither I nor anyone else in this particular thread mentioned spec components or SX-1250 or the like. And as to the SX-D7000 being low power, I think it’s rated at 120 watts per channel which is more than my SA-8800. I wasn’t unhappy with the SC-d7000. I think I am enjoying the SA-8800 more so far.

    I also have an SA-8800 with the fluroscan (sp?)meters. I like it but cannot get it to power a vintage set of 4 ohm speakers I restored, even though the amp is supposed to be able to power 4 ohm speakers. The amp shuts off after about 20 seconds. It works great with 8 ohm speakers, though.

      4 ohm is much higher load than 8 ohm.

      Has it been serviced? It’s like an old car that isn’t as powerful as it could be until someone gives the engine an overhaul.

      After a full service it should behave as in the specs

      that is strange i use a 4 ohms speakers from the 80´s (Mission)to hear music on a sa-608 and it works perfect,this in my bedroom
