I don’t mind paying more, but experiencing the Sony connection issues have given me cold feet. So if you Google “earbuds issue” are there any in the top 5 that are a safe bet?

Any of the apple pods, they’re solid apple quality, they also sound what I’d call good enough. Though the best perk is the ease of use if you use apple products.
beware of the connection issues with the Sony ones, it’s a bummer. i’ve had good luck with Bose and Sennheiser, no major problems.
I’ve been rocking my UTWS5 earhooks for over a year but they have their quirks.
Of course, you’ll need your own IEMs to go with them but for the convenience of no cables they’re a great product only for that purpose.
I can just say from my own experience that the Galaxy Buds pro (and probably the pro 2) will last for quite a while. Next to no connectivity issues, long battery life, solid sound with some EQ profiles, allthough limited in what you can configure.
Mine survived a ton of gym workouts and fell down so many times. ANC is pretty solid.
They are all disposable because of how those tiny batteries age. I didn’t have a single issue with my akg n400 until the battery has started to go out.
I wonder how new Sonys are, because my WF-1000XM3 are really annoying sometimes.
I’ve had Samsung pro earbuds for 3 years now without any issues, I have dropped them, used them in the rain, and no issues whatsoever.
I have the buds 2 pro, I have treated them very rough and they still work great. My only complaint is comfort but it may be only me.
Buds Pros can definitely be uncomfortable. I ended up replacing mine with Senns because I got sick of my ears hurting after a short time. The senns are much more comfortable.
Likewise, and they sound solid for a TWS, i haven’t felt the need to upgrade to the Buds 2 Pros.

Samsung Buds 2 and Buds 2 pro both are great sounding with minimal issues.
The earbuds idea is an issue by it self . The best earbuds will last you maximum 2 year on the best case scenario. On the other hand the same amount of money on good wired IEM will last you years. This a traid off . I use an iem with portable Dac
Earbuds definetely last more than 2 years in the best case scenario, 4-5 years might be the limit where if nothing else goes wrong battery will probably become much worse. But I guess it depends how much you use them / charge them.
I used my earbuds daily. i had several experiences with the earbuds, i got fedup from them.
first i got the bose, it fall a parts on daily uses after a year. then i got the samsung then the apple airpods pro . all worked fine for a year then the issues will start to appear .
for the airpods for example. it was the best one but as apple released the airpods pro 2 i start to notice some connections issues with apple pushing more software updates to its devices beside the charging issue, at the end i have wested around 600 $. it not big money for 3 years, but it could be my only 600 $ even for 6 years with more use cases for the IEM as compared to the earbuds. i can use them for Gaming on pc or ps5.by the way someone commented airpods pro 2 in the comment section i voted up for it. i am not against the idea of earbuds, but the discussion about earbuds without issues. simply there is none .
While a bit dated now, I never had any issues with my Sony WF1000XM3 and have been using them near-daily for a few years. Only the left headphone broke after 1 too many drops. Can vouch for them
LOVE my Pixel buds A series and they’re on sale for like $60 right now. Use them almost everyday at work and the gym. Zero issues so far.
I’d day Apple, Samsung and BOSE are the least problematic
I had B&O E8’s from release (2017 or so) and they were pretty rock solid until 6 months or so ago due to poor battery life.
Still hold up otherwise though.
Sennheiser TWS3 has/had issues with bud not charging in the case. Mine has no issues so far (1 year of use), but I know someone who had to RMA his. And there are threads about it.
