  • I can’t hate anything Fiio does. Also as the top comment here mentions, it is a great idea to eliminate one device from your ‘desk’ top.

We already see many keyboards that also have a computer stuffed inside them, YMMV about the computing power being suited for your needs, but there are definitely other components that could be tucked away inside a proper mechanical keyboard that would clear up even more space on the desk.

  • The term High Fidelity (Hi-Fi ) audio started getting used when better turntables, better amp design, FM radio, better crossovers and component driver setups started promising more detailed sound that was IN DIRECT CONTRAST with the old-timey, potato like sound on old phonographs, AM radio etc.

Thus, the term hi-fi only makes sense when compared to its true lo-fi predecessor. It has no meaning today when even the phone in your pocket is capable of producing better sound than Edison ever did. Everything is hi-fi now. That’s the objective truth.

Subjectively speaking u/COLON_DESTROYER is right. There’s no end to opinions.

  • The best speakers I ever heard were the handbuilt, questionable quality, Indian made ‘Woodstock’ tower speakers that my dad had in our house that I spent my entire childhood listening to. He had them paired with a 3-piece Mars deck (beautiful, all aluminium, amp-radio-tape deck combo) that he picked up used for a discount when he was young and didn’t have any money.

Now those speakers didn’t have great fidelity or clarity or imaging etc. But for me at that age they were singularly responsible in sparking a fascination with audio and big enclosure speakers.

Today, both my interest as well as the ‘Woodstock’ speakers are still going.
