Does the single channel change when you switch the connectors from the TT to the amp? Meaning, if it only outputs to the left, even after switching the connectors, it’s an issue with the amp.
And, it could be a fault with just the MC section of the pre-amp. Try running the MC cartridge on the MM pre-amp (volume would be very low) and see whether you get both channels.
Main take away is: when debugging, try to isolate each component and test just that. No point in changing multiple things at the same time, because then you still have to guess where the issue is.
I get why you would think that, but I feel it’s very device dependent. A pre-amp has more going on, therefore more chance to alter the signal (besides what’s intended like volume). But its not a rule.
