  • If you are only playing on PC, go with the PS version as it is cheaper due to not coming with the Dolby License. The Dolby license may be purchased from the Microsoft store if you think you need it.

Only go with the Xbox version if you plan on buying or own an Xbox AND intend to use the Maxwell with it.

I have about 23 different dacs and amps sitting on my desk at the moment. Everything is functional and most connected to line switchers to be used with each other. I have a legend on my sticky notes app to tell me what goes where on the switchers.

TLDR: I haven’t consolidated or sold stuff off as there are differences between most of my stuff and some have better synergy with certain headphones over others. I guess you could say that it’s a terrible way to EQ, lol.

I didn’t realize this was out now. They can have my money, I absolutely love the PR2 and have no doubt that PR3 will be excellent. I’ll get my hands on it one way or another, I don’t care if KZ is a scummy company, a good product is a good product and in this case the PR2 (v1) was a good product and I don’t doubt that the PR3 will be one as well.

  • Tip fit and seal is important. The type of tip you use might also be important as some of them have different hole sizes which emphasize things like treble or bass. If the treble is already sounding hot for you, a smaller hole might help. Rolling tips might be something you will have to do until you have something you know that works (seals) for you AND sounds good. The other poster had a good idea with the mod kit suggestion but I’d first try and get your tip situation under control.

I dug out my Apple Dongle since you mentioned that was what you were using and paired it with this set. Did some J-pop and anime-esque songs for maximum ear rape. I didn’t really find any sibilance or was just unlucky in my song selection but it almost seems like the Apple Dongle is unable to drive the EW200. What I mean is that plugging into my Dawn Pro, the bass hits harder and is not as soft sounding as it is on the Apple Dongle. I’m also finding that the Apple Dongle sounds a bit congested at times in comparison which harms the amount of detail I can retrieve. There are some songs that I simply didn’t like the way how it sounded on the Apple Dongle, this would be Cats Eye (new take) by Anri. It was much easier on the ears with the Dawn Pro. I do my listening around 75dB.

I’m not saying the Apple dongle is not kennough but I’m not feeling the kennergy with it. Sorry, I’ve been dying to use some Barbie movie quotes, lol.

Hopefully you get your tip situation sorted out and it works for you, this is a really detailed and pristine sounding set but maybe not one for people looking for any sort of exaggerated bass.

  • Dunno. Just got mine today. I don’t really get any sibilance more so than the treble can be a little piercing due to the brightness if you aren’t used to it but I think the default tips don’t really do this IEM justice, it sounds absolutely pristine with my Dunu S&S tips and a bit sloppy with the defaults. Maybe I’m not getting a good fit with them but with proper tips these sound very VERY good. This set seems like it would be at home with a neutral-warm or warm dac/amp.

  • Just enjoy them. Sound will not be degraded unless you hear buzzing or vibration in the upper frequencies (like windows ding will most obviously sound jacked up). I would not attempt to clean them by yourself as you are more liable to damage the unit. For the love of god do not use any air compressor. If you insist on cleaning it out, I would absolutely contact Audeze for instructions.

I had similar concerns with my EF400 and my HE6se V2. To figure out whether or not I was getting the most optimal experience with my headphones, I picked up another amp that could do 8 watts into 50 ohms. The amp that I purchased was a Emotiva BasX A2m.

Honestly, the only real difference that I could pick up on was that the Emotiva could get much louder and I have no idea where the volume would max out but it’s not something I care to find out as I will never be listening to where the Ef400 max out and the Emotiva.

I tend to listen around 75-80db on average which I measure through a dedicated dB meter I picked up off amazon and measuring in the cup and with the cups sealed in on the mic.

Since getting the Emotiva, I have lost interest in thinking what I have is not enough. EF400 is probably all I needed, I would like to think the EF600 is as well, so it’s not something I would worry too much about or think you are missing out on some kinda sound quality leap by throwing more at the headphone.

I kept the Emotiva because the feeling of unlimited volume is nice and the amp sounds amazing.
