What era of speakers? Many American/European made speakers in the 60’s were well built with quality materials and the best audio science (in terms of box designs) they had available to them. Alnico magnets welded to cast frames. High sensitive speakers. Plywood box sides (often particle board backs). Nuts and bolts holding things together. Veneer thick enough you can re-sand and stain. Seals made from wool or felt that still seal, etc.

English designs (especially bookshelf size) from the 90’s were often quite good, too.

I grew up with a Pioneer SX1500T receiver, Altec Valencia speakers and a Miracord turntable/Stanton cartridge. My father purchased them when I was about seven years old. My dad was not an audiophile; but, a co-worker of his had left his engineering job to open a high-end audio store and my dad was an early customer and ended up with a very nice hi-fi (I think it cost about 10% of his annual salary). Teenage me loved that system. I added a Teac cassette deck when I learned to drive to make tapes for the car. I still have the speakers and my parents record collection. My dad’s best friend from that time period has the receiver.

My first system was a Kenwood KA3500, Electro-Voice Interface 1A speakers, Audio Pulse Model two digital time delay with some back channel speakers I build from Radio Shack parts using wood wine crates for the box. I also had a Techniques SL1200 turntable with a Shure cartridge. I spent way too much of my money on audio gear and records. I have none of that gear now but still have my record collection.

Take care to not accidentally short the speaker wire inputs (at the back or inside the cabinet) together as to avoid shorting the signal to the amp.

I’d go with the Celestions, but I have a pair (SL12 SI). Mine do need a lot of power. You might look up the sensitivity of each speaker and depending on your amplifier (and room size) weigh towards the higher sensitivity rated speaker (if your amplifier power is on the low side). Keep in mind the volume increases 3db (one third) when you double the power. So a speaker rated 90db/watt sensitivity plays the same volume with half the power as one 87db/watt.

Honestly, those are all great choices. A refreshing list of choices, actually.
