One of the factors that never gets talked about is a digital signal is different when transferring a signal for music reproduction…
I’m not a scientist so I can’t go into great detail, but the facts (to me) are: I’ve heard lousy cables, streamers etc…. And I was convinced a digital signal didn’t matter. That is, until I went out and listened to a bunch of different set ups…. Now, I won’t debate the issue, if you think something different than I do, that’s cool… you do you. All I’m doing is giving my 2 cents on the matter….
-Power Supply inside the unit
-cheap parts/internal clocking
-the cable going to the Dac
I think there are enough variables that spending more on a good unit is money well spent, it would be the same as a cd player that you connect to a Dac
I don’t think it’s a illness but more of an addiction.
I think audiophiles are lucky they’ve channeled it into music listening rather that other stuff like golf (can be just as if not more expensive) or fishing… same, can be very expensive.
What would you rather have a Band new pair of Focal Sopra 3’s or a used (probably leaks) fishing boat that you can use only on weekend or when it’s not raining etc….
Plus, cool audio gear gets to be on n your house and you get to admire it everyday, and it enhances your home, while a new driver sits in the golf bag in your garage…. Boooooooooring!
I’ll take new audio gear that can last your entire life……
Peg is a good one as well
