I have a Debut Pro and I would never switch the stock platter for the acrylic one.

The stock platter is very nice, I doubt you could hear any improvement moving to an acrylic one. It has a TPE insert along the perimeter for damping.

You would be better off using that money to upgrade the stylus.

I would agree. The chance you find good speakers in a thrift store nowadays are really, really slim.
