Burning in my headphones. What would be best, heavy metal, death metal, bass heavy hip hop? References wanted

I gotta make this post long enough so it won’t get deleted…

I’m using a smartphone with the headphones connected to the headphone jack. I’d use my portable amp, but it doesn’t have an hp jack input and the phone needs to use the USB-C port for charging.

Nothing. Burn-in does not exist at all. It’s some archaic snake oil that obviously headphone manufacturers, especially dubious ones like HiFiMAN will jump on to use up your return window.

Also ignore anyone trying to tell you cables or amplifiers will somehow improve your headphones drastically. With amps/dacs there will be differences, but they’ll be so small that it’s likely to not persuade you to enjoy your headphones more. Cables are a complete sham though.

I suggest looking into EQ. It’s not some huge boogeyman that some audiophiles lead people to believe. It can do wonders in making your headphones sound better, and it’s free. It’s not always the perfect solution, because it doesn’t vastly improve features of a headphone that do not deal with frequency response, but it may mean the tuning is more palatable for you.

Burn in is such a dubious concept that you should probably just listen to music and see if you like them. If burn in exists at all, the changes would likely be extraordinarily small and well beyond human perception.

You don’t need to worry about burn in. There isn’t really anything to support it. It’s more of an old audiophile claim that marketing supports since it uses up your return window

For best burn in you need flame, campfire, burner or lighter. All together = stronger burn in

So…. Burn in is 99.9% irrelevant, and certainly if you don’t like the sound of the headphones now, you won’t like it after 50-100 hours of burn-in.

If you still wanna try, white noise - equal amounts of content at any frequency is the most movement you could give the driver.

Welp…My Q45 have been enduring the blazing loud sound of Death-adder Metal for over 24 hours. I might just go ahead and subject them to another 24 hours, really work that poor sound quality out of them 😊

Okay, got impatient and pulled the Q45 off the wine bottle and checked them out. 😊

They still don’t sound good to me. I think their muddy bass or sub bass is interfering with the upper mids and highs.

I put them back in their case and shelved them. No amount of burn in is going to fix muddy bass.
