Our all-time best selling open-back audiophile headphones, the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX is a replacement to the original HD 650 with a refreshed aesthetic & improved utility.
It depends, for me giving up the soundstage from the 598 was a bit disappointing since I paid 350 euros for the HD650 at the time, I didn’t expect that downgrade. On the other hand the resolution and definition in the sound is a definite step up. The HD650/HD6XX just sounds really tight, like you just came from the hairdresser lol. I’d say you’ll probably enjoy them. Yeah you might need an amp, they’re just demanding enough that your phone or computer might lack some volume with them. Depends a lot on how loud you listen as well.
When I went from my 598 to 650 the improvement was quite noticable. Biggest thing is that the bass and lower frequencies on the 650 sound much more prominent, but also clearer. Also, yes, amp absolutely required for the 650
Would I like these if I enjoyed the HD598SEs? I’ve had that pair for a while and it might be time to retire them.
Also, do these need an amp?
