Hey, so I’m looking all over for an audio system for my 8 yr old kid. I want it to be solely for audio: no access to internets, etc. I had the boom box to get me hooked on music at his age, any ideas out there for how I can set him up for a similar love affair?

My 7 year old has a Yoto player and absolutely loves it. We just use the make your own cards and put audio books and music on them. It has internet connectivity to listen to a “Yoto daily” radio show or to listen to podcasts but you can disable that functionality through the app if you want.

YouTuber Techmoan did a video on the Yoto. It looks really cool. AND you can now get the Beatles on it.

We have a kids Amazon Echo into a Sharp 1-Bit digital all-in-one system out to a pair of Pioneer Andrew Jones speakers (with kind of silly Audioquest speaker cables). Sounds better than anything I ever had until I got out of college!

Get a pre owned old school iPod! They’re fantastic for kids, I used to have one with the circle dial and the tiny screen (that was only good for choosing music)
