I measured frequency response output with different power cables and outlets. Made no difference to the very sensitive and calibrated microphone, and was not audible.
I also used a device that measures AC power line noise. The outlet power was noisy, a large and expensive transformer slightly less noisy, and a power conditioner I purchased at a thrift store for $10 was dead quiet. None of this was audible though either.
The cables are bullshit, power conditioning may make a measurable improvement, but you probably won’t hear it.
Thank you for this - I’m not educated in this area but the thing that always stand out to me on cables, ESPECIALLY power cables is that the power going all the way from the station, multiple transformers, through your breaker, housing wire, outlet, then to your cable. While using a bad material and shielded cable could definitely introduce some bad stuff, no quality of cable from the outlet to your device is going to remove any mess generated from ALLLL those stages before it.
I’ve not heard of a power conditioner before but looking it up that would make the most sense to me.
And good grounding is important. Not always you have mains noise, but good grounding is important to remove it.
It happened to me: I was about to buy a shielded mains because I thought the cheap amp mains cable was acting as an antenna, but it was the CD interconnect with no ground - once I remove the interconnect, noise disappeared.
