its always… Diana Krall, Jen Warnes, Fitzgerald, Fleetwood Mac, Pink FLoyd, Dead can dance, Miles Davis, Talking Heads

sometimes, Leonard Cohen, michael jackson or Jean michel jarre… but Paul Simon?

never heard him on any audiophile channel. but his music is just superbly recorded. Thoughts?

Many of Paul Simon’s recordings (and earlier Simon & Garfunkel recordings) were engineered by Roy Halee – he cared a lot about sound quality, and it shows in the recordings.

Just wanted to say thanks for the nudge to listen anew. It had been years. Trip down memory lane, and first time with a whole new set up. What a joy. I’ll be back.

Some how I don’t seem to have “Graceland” so it looks like a anniversary edition is on Amazon.

How is that compared to the original. Has it been messed with or should I just get the original. Which one sounds better.

How is the “ultimate collection” for sound quality mastering ?

No one mentioning Neil Young. I’ve heard he is a tyrant for achieving quality recordings. For me there are few who can create so much meaning with so little. It’s the miss hit string. The thrum on the guitar body, the bending of the note, the off key voice. Some how. Perfect.

Apparently Graceland was recorded and mixed so immaculately that the mastering engineer, Greg Calbi, only had to make a few surgical, almost imperceptible, eq changes. To the point where he basically feels guilty for getting credit because he barely did anything at all.

Wow, thanks for the info. some say blue train by Coltrane is best recorded album, but i disagree, Graceland is simply incredible. And i dont have the best hearing for sure.

You know that old saying? “Audiophiles don’t listen to music, they listen to their gear” This post is a perfect example of that

I’d add Radiohead and The Smile to that list if you can get a decent pressing of Moon Shaped Pool, Ok Computer, Kid A, A Light For Attracting Attention (Some of my pressings are not great, despite being clean from fresh out of the shrink wrap)
