Thank you for your time! after 20 years I have finally come to the conclusion that I enjoy vinyl more than any other medium. This is thanks to my previous roommate who had a serious collection and a pro-ject debut s turntable with a basic Kenwood amp.
He moved out and now my modest record collection is just collecting dust…
I own adam a7x monitors to go with my apollo twin/w octo satellite and a 8 channel art tube mic pre via adat for 10 total inputs, 4 tube inputs being used for my mono and poly synths… the rest are open.
Anyway I want to invest in a turntable and I have been looking at the techniques sl1200 series and the pro-ject models… these are both really expensive and I’m curious if you guys know of a happy medium that is maybe cheaper and does not sacrifice quality? I do alot of recording and sampling but I’m not a “dj” and I’m not looking to scratch with any of my records so is the sl1200 series for 1300 dollars really worth it? With all the sampling I do does it really have extra features that are going to come in handy or will the pro-ject models suffice? And those models differ in price drastically from 500 to 5000 dollars… are you really gaining 4500 dollars worth of quality there? I’m much more of a function over form kinda person… is there another model you would recommend that is a different brand? Also my a7xs are powered should I invest in another amp to go along with this? I mean I should just be able to plug directly into the back of the adam a7xs via rca but also I could plug into art tube amp in order to go via XLR?
I really do love the sound of vinyl… it took so long to figure out how much more I love it than digital (even at 24bit 192k) that it’s turned listening back into a spiritual experience of sorts… I am just so very very extremely late to this party lol I need much guidance can you assist?
I don’t know about in the USA but you could pick up a Linn Majik LP12 for £3500 in the UK. How available is Linn gear in the States? A Rega of whatever model you can afford is a good bet too.
