I recently scored a pair of used Sennheiser 579’s for only $20. The current drawback of these right now would be the constant smell of cigarettes since the last owner was a smoker. The smell is particularly bad with the earpads and headband. While I was able to get aftermarket earpad replacements, I am not too sure how to get the smell out of the headband.

The head band is not replaceable. Its made out of fake leather with a plush/foam interior. Any ideas on how to get rid of the smell so I can really enjoy these things?

You won’t be able to get the smell out, it’s probably permeated the plastic. Either pick up smoking, learn to live with the smell or just charge the $20 to the game and move on.

If you dont mind the smell of coffee perhaps buy a container of cheap coffee beans and dip the headphone inside the container until the smell goes away? Coffee is perfect to absorb smells, though your stuff will smell like coffee afterwards

Soak the headband in vinegar for a few hours, then wash with water and soap.
