The t50rp was a steal before it became popular. I picked up my pair of mkii for $45. All in, ive spent less on them then the cost of a new pair of mkiii. The price to performance is still there, but not what it used to be. At $250ish you got a lot of options that are very good that dont require any modding. It was never an easy recommendation, but the higher price makes it even harder.
The t50rp have amazing bass when modded. I have maybe $20 in materials for the mods, and another $50 in earpads. They make a significant difference in how they sound. With the right earpads and porting, the bass extends low and is quite impactful.
I have a magni 3+, asgard 2, and a midgard.
The magni 3+ is a great little amp, neutral sound, and it has plenty of power for most headphones, but yeah, the pot they use in them is quite noisy and prone to channel imbalance issues (10-12 o’clock on mine is unlistenable).
I really like the asgard 2 with my modded fostex t50rp, it’s warm sounds really rounds out the brightness of the t50rps and is just a great combo I was going to sell the asgard and magni when I got the midgard, but I think I enjoy this combo too much to let it go. The volume pot on it is fantastic, just the right amount of resistance, and completely quiet, but catches me off guard occasionally with how hot to the touch it gets.
I have been really liking the midgard with my lcd-2c. Pretty neutral sounding to me. Same pot as the asgard, a little stiffer cause I got this amp new rather than used. The SE output is nothing spectacular, but nothing negative about it to me. I think the balanced output with the halo topology has a really pleasant sound. Not really quite able to articulate what it is yet, but I do like it. Maybe it’s just placebo, either way, love the idea behind it. I appreciate they had the idea and just went with it. Marketing it with images of the lcd-2c which I had picked up a month before this amp dropped just really finished off the sell to me. LOL
Seriously, I am not nice to my decade old dt770. They get dropped from desk height regularly. The only issues is that the adjustment clips are loose, so you have to adjust them every time you put them on, but they stay adjusted while you wear them, and I had to replace the cable. Made it removable.

If you find an amp that will power the tungsten headphones, there is no headphones that amp would not be able to power. The tungsten headphones are low sensitivity, and high impedance. They’re easily the most difficult headphones to power that I have ever seen.
