What is your amp and other equipment? That and tube positions in the overall chain as well as the circuit make a big difference as to how much you can hear a difference.

I never get into these debates but here I go…

Records can really sound excellent. The problem is that it’s a far more technical and expensive medium to get it to sound excellent. There is just such a wide gulf of a difference in quality between a $1k turntable and a kilo buck turntable. It’s just not the same experience.

For the first 25 years of CDs, I never heard digital that sounded as good as a really good turntable. That’s not true anymore. So times are changing. Still, a good turntable is better than a cheap DAC but a cheap DAC is probably as good or better than the cheap turntables that are selling like hotcakes these days. You guys basing your whole opinion of vinyl sound on your Rega, or Technics really have not really experienced how good records can be, even 60 or 70 year old used records.

The 800s are definitely good enough to hear improvements in source equipment. Sennheisers also like high amperage and overcome some of the complaints about them. The Schit doesn’t have that. Now a lot of people will come say the opposite that there is no difference.

I’d suggest finding a friend or dealer with better equipment so that you could listen for yourself rather than asking on the internet where half the people answering have never heard the 800s and have no experience with something as good as you have let alone better.

Switching supplies are much cheaper to manufacture, linear power supplies often sound much better. Much product at the higher price points use linear supplies but there are better and worse quality switching supplies as well. Wal wart styles are the lowest of the low.

However, at the price points of products that use outboard wal wart style supplies, you’re probably better off saving your money on after market linear PSUs and budgeting to upgrade your equipment instead.

It’s too bad, none of his records sound very good. I don’t know where he was recording or who was his engineer but they’re all pretty compressed and lacking dynamics.

A really good sounding B2R would sure be great but even the new reissues are meh.
