Please don’t understand it wrong, but I have a simple question - why this much of IEMs? How do you use them, change them depending on your mood, source material, DAP, DAC, headphone amp? I was always wondering, why people have ten or more IEMs/headphones etc. I can partly understand, yes, this is an hobbly like everything else, so you collect stuff, but for me it differs for example from collecting watches, because you can have some for different things (official, normal day, sports, bling bling etc.).
I do have one pair of IEMs and a second one as a spare one (much cheaper), if the main one fails and I need to send it back on warrant or somthing. I also do have one pair of headphones, that cover all my needs. The same applies to my DAC/DAP etc.
Just wondering how, when and what for do you use them.
Thank you for your answer. I can understand, that it can be tempting to listen to something and then change the IEMs/headphones and listen to the same stuff with different signatures, but to be honest, how often would you do that? I totally agree, that every single headphones/IEMs have their strenghts and weaknesses, even to most expensive one, so to have a collection of best trebble, best bass, best soundstage etc. makes some sense. In this case you had a specific album, where you just love the bass for example and then switch to the right IEM. But then again, how often would you do that? But as I stated before - it’s totally fine for me, don’t get me wrong, it’s your money and your hobby, was just curious.
My case is completely different, I’m in that hobby for over 20 years and had probably under 10 IEMs and 3 or 4 headphones in all that time. But almost never more than 2 at the same time, the second one as a spare, I sold or gave the older ones to someone. I’m pretty sure, that even if I had more IEMs/headphones, I would be too lazy to use them all, would always use the most “universal” one.
