  • Same for me, I ‘upgraded’ to a HD660S chasing better resolution and better vocals…

But mahn with my EQ’ed PortaPros, which I spent a loooong time trying to get a good enough EQ. They are almost perfect in everything, even though the HD660S, resolve more. There’s no other headphones to date, where if I put on a Norah Jones track, that they sing to me so soulfully with the right amount of sharpness to her voice it makes me melt…as much as my PortaPros.

Even unequalized the PortaPros are excellent. I don’t know what magic Koss used to make these, coz mahn.

Though some time back I was trying to recable them and accidentally burnt off the drivers solder, spoiling them😑.

I’m looking if I can get some mulla to buy some higher end ZMF’s or HE1000 to see if I can replicate the PortaPros lush tone, but with greater resolution…but with middle of the pack ZMF’s being sold at $3000, that should take me a few years, living in a 3rd world country😅. Or maybe I found my endgame already 🤔😂

If you read the recent comments on Head-Fi last week, or you do a search for ‘HD660S’, on the HD660S2 appreciation thread, some people asked the same question. Some had HD660S and asked if it was worth the upgrade to the HD660S2. They generally were all told the same thing, that if you have the HD660S already, the HD660S2 offers a different flavor to the sound, but ultimately it’s not worth the upgrade and they should look for other headphones. Although, if you’ve got some cash to burn, then you can go ahead…
