It totally up to you. I’d do a tone sweep to make sure there aren’t resonances created by the object. The risk with plants is water that could either spill onto the speaker when watering or leak out of the bottom of the pot onto the speaker. If you can afford to replace your speaker when needed, or don’t mind peeling veneer, that risk is up to you. There are things on my speakers seasonally, or an iPad stand with an album cover displayed on it, etc… it’s never bothered me.

There are no hard and fast rules to be part of the audiophile club. Everybody does stuff that will make others cringe, but ultimately, it’s up to you, your ears, your needs. What makes ME cringe is people treating their stuff like mini-dieties, babied to protect resale value, and don’t USE them to their fullest.

Lemme get this straight… you’re in Graphic Design, but instead of creating an Ad for an existing HiFi company, you’re creating the brand? Like… what the equipment looks like, the knobs and buttons? You’re asking what kind of features on our equipment appeals to us and what doesn’t appeal?

By the way, don’t glamorize the word Audiophile too much… your gramma could be one, or your sister or that weird guy across the street. It’s nothing special. We just pay a little more attention to what is playing our music instead of using a bluetooth speaker we got for Christmas.

  • Explain that to echos and how two speakers in open air can sound fantastic, but placed in a cathedral they sound like crap.

You absolutely have to modify rooms to correct for room problems like standing waves, null nodes, etc. Speakers for the most part don’t have the problems, rooms have problems (within reason… some rooms are great, with the correct amount of natural baffles and absorbing material, some speakers are objectively crap).

  • How about not rated at all… Nobody talks about Boston Acoustics. Nobody talks about Denon. Under Rated - Cambridge. Over rated - everything I don’t want to afford. I could, I just don’t want to… Denafrips, Chord, PASS Labs, PSAudio, etc. I’m sure they sound great, just… how much greater do I need? I wouldn’t buy UP even if I won a big lottery. I’d buy up to JBL L100 or Klipsch Forte or Cornwalls, and call it a day.
