Not sure the Chu ll can be full blast, it’s too bright for me. Can only stand around 55 to 60%. Needs some EQ to enjoy higher volume.

I use KA1, not sure if it gives sound quality improvement over the 3.5mm jack, but for sure it completely remove the noise in audiobooks during chapter changes.
Try autoEQ to Sony IER-Z1R (only to 5-6k hz), it fixed that harsh tones for me, and little bit more bass.
