Hi,

My pc is connected to my amplifier Marantz PM7000N, through optical cable/spdif.

The Marantz is connected to Wharfedale speakers, through speaker cable.

I use the pc connection to watch movies/music and sometimes game on my tv screen in the other room. (pc to tv = hdmi)

Sounds fine (imo), never had an issue, so for me, this way works.

But, my motherboard/pc needs replacing, and Black friday deals are popping up.

Unfortunately, on most deals, the motherboards never seem to have the spdif output I need…

Which made me wonder, is spdif not used anymore? Or are there other/better ways of connecting? If yes, which?

Ive seen there are spdif/usb converters, im not sure if thats better or worse, thats where my knowledge ends…?

(The Marantz has an usb I believe, but im not sure if its meant for desktop connection)

Thank you!

You can buy a sound card for your motherboard if it doesn’t have an optical output. There are many sound cards that come with an optical output.
