Is the LCD-5 better in every aspect (except maybe price-value ratio) than LCD-X for EDM ,electro ,instrumental etc?
I would put them against the MM-500, which is the headphone I’d recommend in that comparison. The LCD-5 is an entirely different beast. While I would recommend a mastering engineer look at the 5s, the LCD-X and MM-500 are both great mixing headphones that happen to also work as casual listening/personal audio headphones.
I love the LCD-X and it has been a workhorse for me. But the MM-500 addresses most of the issues I had with that set and see it as more of a natural upgrade to the X.
I think most peoples favorite will be the LCD-X tbh. Sure the LCD-5 is a better headphone, but I don’t think most people can justify the price difference. The LCD-X is an incredible headphone when EQ’ed. I really don’t think you should buy it without EQ’ing.
They came out with a newer version, I think in 2021 that does better without EQ. I haven’t tried it to compare it.
The pre-2021 without EQ are unlistenable. With EQ, they’re fantastic and probably the best at the price range IMO.
