I’m humoring adding a service or replacing Spotify.

My streaming setup is pretty simple. WiiM Pro and a SMSL dac, diy amp, DCM TF600s.

Spotify is “great” for me in terms of ease and being able to play things on a whim/in the car, and generally has had everything I’ve searched for.

…but I can (sometimes) hear where Spotify just isn’t quite as great in terms of sound quality…plus there’s the whole payment to the artists thing…

I have no interest in Apple Music and would prefer to avoid Amazon as well.

To the best of my knowledge, that basically leaves Deezer, Tidal, and Qobuzz

My ‘critical genres’ (in terms of the libraries) would lean towards 90s alt rock, 80-90s industrial, some of the other indie acts from that era.

You’ll probably be better with Tidal, but if you’re contemplating on building a music server it’s well worth. I hate that music just disappears from music services without notice, so you don’t really have any control over your library.
