Honestly, just for balance visually. It has a padded bottom with Noico attached to it so it doesn’t rattle or scratch the top.

Long story short, I got fairly invested in building my own speakers and have been working on designing my own crossovers to implement in the future. This lead me to believe that buying speakers was unnecessary when I could build my own that perform almost as well. What I didn’t expect was that sitting around listening to your own speakers means just that: all I was listening to was the speakers and not the music. And quite frankly, it wasn’t enjoyable at all.

I will continue to work on projects and pursue my own goals, but I NEEDED some speakers. I stumbled upon a nearly new set of KEF R3 Metas that were an absolutely incredible steal I couldn’t pass up! I’ve been listening to them every possible second these last few days and I am BLOWN AWAY! I DO have a KEF fetish admittedly. I’ve owned several pairs and still use a set of their Q series on my main TV. I’ve also owned a set of the previous iteration of the R3s (non meta).

I thought I was blown away by those and was so upset with myself for ever letting them go. When I agreed to purchase these I thought, “How much better could these be than the last?”

They are better. A lot better.

Those are excellent speakers. I demo’d a pair for a week. They sadly didn’t work in my room, but I dug them a lot. Kudos to you for discovering them.

Nice! KEF always make great looking and sounding speakers. I have a 5.1.4 home cinema with R300, R200, R100 Q50 and Ci200’s. Sounds amazing. And I know what you mean, I used to build guitars and thought I would never buy a factory guitar again. I was wrong 😂

yes I bought a used set of thor drivers and crossovers with a lot of help for diyaudio and thought i thought I would build a quick set of cabinets and try them out, within a week I put my b&w 802 Matix up for sale, I will eventually rebuild the cabinets and actually finish them it has only been 12 years.

They are SO INCREDIBLE. Price justified instantly IMO and they aren’t even broken in yet!

      Also, thank you!

Ohh the yamaha AS300, do you leave it on pure direct or do you like to alter some of the dials?

Honestly, I usually leave it on Pure Direct, but I’ve been playing with the tone controls a lot since I acquired the metas!

I’m awaiting my KEF R3 Metas to come in, I’m also upgrading from the Q series. Glad to hear you enjoy the R3Ms so much!

What kind of stands do you have them on?
