Hi! I just downloaded Britney Spears’ album in lossless format, but there’s a cutoff at 21kHz on the spectrogram (the entire album is like this). Then, I changed the source and downloaded it from Qobuz, but it still has that cutoff. Her other albums can easily reach 22kHz. Is there a reason behind this, or is it just a mastering error?

CDs are often cut off at bit over 20khz, i belive this is so dithering works better?

There really is no point in having the music go to much over 20khz anyway, you cant hear that high.

When you Google “21khz cut” you get 5 years of reddit threads saying this is typical and you’re wasting your time looking at spectral analysis lol.

The tldr is cutting above 20khz removes harshness from a track.
