About the Marantz PM7000N I just purchased this Amp from new. And also had a conversation with a person from Marantz customer service. During the conversation he informed me that the DAC of the unit only starts working when an outside source is connected via COACIAL or OPTICAL and NOT otherwise.

So I asked what about AUX CABLE CONNECTION from my LG G7? Because I have some high resolution files on the phone. I could play them via Heos and WiFi, but I just want to know because I like using the high quality DAC in my phone…

But I haven’t heard anything from Marantz since? I asked the dealer (well known supplier) about this and they have never heard about this and also thought that all inputs are connected to the PM7000Ns DAC.

If the DAC of the unit only starts working when an outside source is connected via COACIAL or OPTICAL and NOT otherwise, then are the other inputs at the back of the unit, they are not connected to the DAC?

Can anyone shine light on this please? It seems Marantz stops talking when this subject comes up? I have asked them twice In 2 weeks.

Iam a 73 years old pensioner and feel bad about it. It’s not that I have money growing on trees and spending £ 645 which I have never done before is a lot for me. I feel something isn’t right? What do you think?

Pete

I just found out that no conversion is needed if the source output is already high resolution, it’s simply passes through. And I thank the person’s which answered this. It really helped 🙏

One question remains, If the Dac is only operating via optical and coaxial inputs but not otherwise, then what happens in situations when a DAC is normally needed and such a source is connected to the aux input ?

    Sorry my ignorance
