I have 2 planar IEMs but never had BA. I hear explanations of Bass mids and highs when they keep comparing to dynamics, but it all sounds like planars and BA are similar? Bass is tighter and accurate, but not as impactful, mids and treble can be very well reflected with them.

So, anyone who has single BA (Etymotic sr4, Aful Magic One and the likes etc.) and single planar (letshuoers, Tinhifi etc.), please tell me your experience.

We don’t make that comparison often because planars are typically used for speakers and headphones but not so much in IEMs.

We often use the words “tight” and “fast” and “well -controlled” when describing the texture of the Bass of planar AND BAs, but they are somewhat different in terms of decay and presentation if you pay close attention to them and listen side by side. However, this is really hard to describe in words as if I were to describe how vegemite tastes like to someone who never had it before. You just got to try it.

Let me actualize your knowledge on the matter a bit. Everyone and their mother is buying planars. They begin at 30$. Everything can drive them and they fit everywhere. Im using an Akoustyx S6 6.2mm planar in an Etymotic sized enclosure out of my phone right now. First playstation planar TWS is out in 9 days. You couldnt be further from the truth.

I dont believe its that difficult to tell how much difference they feel and how perceivable it is, whether they prefer one or the other. I didnt ask them to make me experience it. I said it. I dont know how BA sounds.

All we need to concern ourselves with is frequency response, distortion levels, and load characteristics when it comes to examining drivers.

If the frequency response adheres to a well defined target, the distortion inaudible, and the load inoffensive to the majority of amplifiers, the technology used to get there is irrelevant.
