I’ve been scanning the Facebook and eBay for a bit now, looking for “something interesting” to be another reciever for my setup. I’ve noticed quite a few Sony recievers that look like clones of the 70s and 80s Pioneers, Technics, etc. Are any of them actually sought after or worth the buy? Are they actually copies or is there anything uniquely redeemable about what Sony was doing back then?

The best old Sony stuff is the ES power amps. If you can find one, just get it.

I have a Sony GX10ES. Probably the best from Sony in the 80s but maybe I’m biased. Paid 300 for it with a matching WR11ES cassette deck and CDP8ESD cd player.

But to answer your question the silver face Sonys are nice but I question weather they’re really worth the big money they bring.
