Looking to invest in a vintage setup primarily to play vinyl. What are my amp options that are not a typical receiver with a radio (not a fan of the look) And if I want to get lazy and stream a playlist how well does the vintage equipment adapt? I think the NAD C 3050 is what I am looking for but obviously not a vintage choice. Should I let the nostalgia urge go and just buy new?
If you don’t want a tuner in the amp then what you want is an integrated amp. You can go vintage if you want and there are many fine choices. If that’s the case, look for one which has been recently serviced. Often times, your local record store will have some for sale so you can go an demo them (the stuff my shop sells even comes with a warranty, which is nice for vintage gear)
If you don’t want to go with with vintage (which is perfectly reasonable) The good news is that there are a lot of new amps which have integrated phono stages again. Yamaha is making some nice retro-styled amps which start at about 550 and go up… (example)
As for adding a streamer to a vintage amp, that’s no issue as it’s just a line level input. So pretty much any input outside the phono input will work.
Thanks - great info
