this cassette player turns on and functions but when the tape plays it’s super distorted and cuts in and out throughout the tracks. i cleaned the heads a bit and it seemed to make it clearer but it still pulsates in and out and sounds pretty terrible. any advice on what i should do or what the problem may be? thanks in advance

You’ll get there, with that deck or another one. If it’s any consolation at all, distortion is in at the moment. :)
