Definitely a take at that price. When I had to send back my HFM Ananda (my daily go-to) for warranty repair, I found myself reaching for my old trusty HD 598 over any of my other cans to fill the gap during repair. I paid $199 for those back then in 2012.
Naaaaaah
These were the headphones that got me into the audio world. Not sure how much they go for these days, but the price seems reasonable. Ignore the discount as many companies are known to price hike before a sale and quote the originally hiked prices as the pre-sale price. Ask yourself if yourself firstly if you even want a new pair of headphones, if so, then are you sure these are the ones you want? If you never had eyes on these in the first place then it’s likely just fomo.

Some of the comfiest headphones ever, and they are really great for games and music. I haven’t wore a pair more comfy than 599s to date, the velour pads are great and there is no clamp, it’s a good padded headband. Great for positional audio, in a FPS game you can pick out footsteps for example really well cause the soundstage is good. On the other hand, the 6XX’s are very good for music but not as much for games because the soundstage doesn’t seem as spacious.
Plus 599s are 50 ohm so you can drive them with ease without an amp.
2HXR are currently about the same price.
In second hand he’s just around 40 or 50 bucks and often in good condition. Just wash and good to go.
Also, with the difference of price, you can buy a TRRS jack to connect to your DAC for exemple (Shanling Up4 2022 that’s nice&cheap or the Fiio BTR5) in 2.5/4.4mm
Or you can buy the 560s in second hand for around or less than 100 bucks, and they’re even better.
At any rate, this one seems close to the 598 that I have, it is really nice! The bass and sub bass is not loud, but they have a really good definition. Like, a “line” of bass guitar, or, not sure of the English for that, a “slap” on a bass, and globally the “attack” on guitars is really nice on the 598/599SE.
They’re less well balanced than the HD 600/650 that I tried (or might have been the 660S 🤔), but you have a really better definition in bass and sub bass. (overall the 600 series is better, but for modern rock, punk, metal, pop-rock/poppunk and “indie rock”, 599 SE is better, IMO)
So, a little EQ (wavelet on Android) and it’s a formidable platform for a less than 100 bucks headphone. Movies and series with a nice source (dac, good soundcard, etc) are really good experiences, Dolby Atmos helps too, but isn’t necessary.
Didn’t have time to gaming since I own it, but no doubt it’s a really nice headphone. However, because it’s totally open, you’ll need to have a quiet PC/console. (like, I don’t use them for a movie if I’m not alone in the house, and if people talks even in another room, I push the volume up) (also, the HD 600/650 have weird stuff/artifacts in spatialisation, 598/599SE/560S don’t, they’re fine for gaming)
So, I recommend it to you, but you could save some bucks with people solding their stuff after the black friday/Christmas and get it for cheaper, or a get 560s for the same price.
No! buy them directly from Sennheiser Outlet for cheaper.I have purchased 6 different models so far.All come brand new.Sennheiser HD599 SE
Really nice cans for the price. If you currently have lesser headphones and are looking to get in to the hobby, buy them. I bought these for a friend of mine last Christmas and he said they blew him away.
At that price, absolutely. I remember metal571 calling the 59X series the gateway drug to good audio.
Nah get some thieaudio ghosts theyre 80 on linsoul and beat up the 5 series pretty good
Tried them. Not a fan.
I looooove them
Go for it.
This is a great price for these headphones and quite honestly these headphones compete with some of my 300 to 500 dollar sets! The sounds stage is super impressive and they are just overall the best bang for your buck headphones ln the market in my opinion! These are the headphones that kicked off my journey into the audiophile world! Don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉
