Hi, I’ve currently owned the Sennheiser 660 S just shy of a year now.
With that being said, I told myself I would go for the Sennheiser 800 S.

Don’t get me wrong, the 800 S sounds amazing but strangely enough it just made me appreciate my 660 S even more. I feel like the 660 S has better mids and more clarity. I was also underwhelmed by the soundstage. I think I might have had too big expectations for the sound stage where it would have felt more “speakerlike”.

What do you guys think about this? Shouldn’t I be preferring the 800 S. I’m kinda confused by all of this.

Thanks!

So I am a Planar guy normally, to include that most of my cans are open back planars. I have two dynamic driven pairs, One open back and one closed. The open back are the HD6XX I actually did not like the 6XX when I initially got them. There was so much content put out about them that I was expecting a dream like experience. Stopped using them after a couple weeks. Q couple months later decided to give them another try and did some critical listening, and through their factory sound profile and some small tweaking of Oratorys profile for them,I was able to find a more clear and detailed sound profile with some emphasis on Sub Bass regions that fit my vibe.

I do have a question though, regarding your 660S. For me, what would you say are the best qualities of your listening experience with the 660s. In your opinion alone, what are it’s best positive notes. What music genres are best ran through the pair…what are the negative constraints or what does it lack in tonality? Ive read countless reviews and YouTube videos, but I myself like hearing different opposing views and opinions from each person I engage with. Its for that reason that I am able to research and then make an informed decision on my purchases. I am looking to get another pair of dynamic drivers, and the 660s were a pair on the horizon for me. So getting any input from another savant for audio is greatly appreciated

      Hi,

I’m by no means an audio engineer but the biggest difference to me was the clarity. I feel like the 660S sound more clear if that makes sense? To be more specfic, Adele’s voici in Hello feels so insanely clear on the 660S. The 800S sounds more “complete” than the 660S.

I’m speaking my mind right now so the text might sound chaotic but once again in different words, the 660s midrange is stellar but lacks bass and the top treble can seem a little off while the 800S feels better all around but inferior in the midrange.
